What a tax invoice must include in Australia
If you're registered for GST, your customers need a valid tax invoice to claim a GST credit. For sales under A$1,000 a tax invoice generally shows:
- The words “tax invoice”
- Your identity and ABN
- The date the invoice is issued
- A description of the items sold, including quantity and price
- The GST amount (or a statement that the total price includes GST)
- For sales of A$1,000 or more, the buyer's identity or ABN
The generator above lays all of this out for you automatically.
Do I have to charge GST?
Only if you're registered for GST. You must register once your turnover reaches A$75,000 in a 12-month period; below that it's optional. Australian GST is 10%, added on top of your ex-GST prices.
