What a GST invoice must include in New Zealand
If you're GST-registered, your customers need a proper tax invoice to claim back the GST they've paid. A compliant GST invoice generally shows:
- The words “tax invoice” in a prominent place
- Your business name and GST number
- The date the invoice is issued
- A description of the goods or services you supplied
- The quantity or amount
- The amount excluding GST, the GST, and the total (or the total including GST with a note that it includes GST)
- For supplies over $1,000, the buyer's name and address
The generator above lays all of this out for you automatically.
Do I have to charge GST?
Only if you're GST-registered. You must register once your turnover passes $60,000 in any 12-month period; below that it's optional. New Zealand GST is 15%, added on top of your ex-GST prices.
